Alexandra House

Welcome to Alex HouseAlexandra House’s primary purpose is to provide short term breaks, up to a maximum of 120 days per year, to young people with a severe learning disability, physical disabilities and complex health needs and to contribute to the agreed Care Plan which will include working with other agencies, to meet the needs of young people and families.

Alexandra House will contribute to the Care Plan for young people and families and then working in partnership with others, in carrying through that stated plan. The focus of work is to provide short breaks to young people as part of a family support plan following an assessment of need.

Alexandra House is skilled in working with young people of either sex. It can accommodate up to six young people and this residential function serves to support work carried out with young people and their families in the community by the fieldwork team. It is the policy to only place over 7 year olds in residence.

Primarily, the Unit serves to provide short breaks to young people where this has been identified as an assessed need. The home is registered with the CSCI as a Children’s Home to care for 6 children of either sex.

Alexandra House’s approach is child centred and the team are skilled at working with young people of any age, particularly those aged 7 to 17 years.

Each young person is allocated a Key Worker on admission who is responsible for coordinating all aspects of a young persons plan within the Unit.
